    Meet My Friend, Blossom

Hi, my friends! This week I want to introduce you to a young woman who holds a special spot in my heart. When I was up in San Francisco at the HRC facility, I met this wonderful young lady named Blossom. She is enthusiastic, energetic, and just absolutely great. I love her story. She’s about to be the first trans woman to graduate from Mississippi University for Women — an incredible accomplishment. The problem she has right now is that she hasn’t been able to take the leap from college to nursing school, and she really feels like the reason she’s not able to do that is because she’s trans.…

We Have to Make Things Easier

Hi, friends. I hope your week is off to a great start. As always, thank you for your unending love and support. Every day, I’m humbled by the thousands of you who reach out to tell me your story, ask questions, or provide encouragement. Even though I can’t respond to each of you individually, I want you to know that I appreciate your kind gestures more than I could ever express. To those of you who have asked me for my opinion or expertise, I want to remind you that while I’ve know that I was trans since I was a small child, learning about the trans community is still…

In Loving Memory of India Clarke and K.C. Haggard

Last week two transgender women were murdered named India Clarke and K.C. Haggard. 11 trans women have been killed in the United States in the past six months — most of them trans women of color. My condolences to those who loved India, K.C., and all of the other victims. No one should be killed simply because they are transgender. Please learn more about the violence trans people face in this report from the National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs here. After that, I encourage you to watch the video below of Janet Mock discussing the violence that trans women face on MSNBC’s The Melissa Harris-Perry Show on July 26. (You can also…

One Tremendous Problem In The Transgender Community

Hi, Caitlyn here. This week we’re going to talk about a very serious issue in the transgender community. One tremendous problem, especially for trans youth, is the suicide rate. A recent study of nearly 100 transgender youth, ages 12 to 24, found that 51% reported thinking about suicide, while 30% had attempted it at least once in their lives (report here). In San Diego alone, over the last several months there have been three transgender kids who’ve died by suicide. The latest you might have heard about last night on my show — Kyler Prescott, a 14-year-old trans boy who not only dealt with trans issues, but also suffered from severe…

How I Conquered My Biggest Fear At the ESPYs

Hi friends. What a week. Let me just start by saying, I’m so happy it’s over! What a relief. Over the last month, I was so worried about what to wear. Donatella Versace reached out to me and said, “I want to do the dress.” I said, “I am SO in.” We started with designs; they made the dress in Italy. Her head dressmaker came over and we did two fittings to make sure we got it just absolutely perfect. It was like every fantasy of my life come true. Getting glamorous for the ESPYs was a big process to go through, but it was amazing and so much fun.…

    The Future Looks Bright

Hi again. It’s Caitlyn. Wow — what a week. Your outpouring after my note last week was incredible. (In fact, so many of you sent me questions and comments that my site crashed!) Even though I can’t get back to each and every one of you, I want you to know that I’m reading your kind words and that they mean the world to me. Here are just a few to get us started. Kelli R.: Was there an inciting moment or event that made you decide to share Caitlyn with the world?  What gave you the courage after all that time? Was there a “tipping point”? Thanks for caring…

    The Journey Begins

Hi everyone. Caitlyn here. First of all, I want to thank you all for your support. The response to my new journey has been overwhelmingly positive and I’m eternally grateful for all of your sweet messages, letters, and gifts. Up until now, I have totally isolated myself from the transgender community so I have a lot of catching up to do. I feel such a responsibility to this courageous group to try to get it right and tell all sides of the story. To me, that’s always the biggest question: am I doing it right? A few weeks ago I had dinner with some of my new friends — a…
