I am with you, and I am here to help

Last week, I had the honor of sitting with the staff of St. John’s Trans Health Program. With open hearts, everyone around the table shared their thoughts and feelings about the times that we’re in, and what we could do to heal the pain of our community together. In this spirit of unity and love, I’m going to decline the award they so graciously offered me for supporting their mission. I understand that my presence is distracting from the real purpose of the event, which is to celebrate the important and life-saving work of St. John’s. I will continue my commitment to helping marginalized communities through my foundation. Trans people…

My Response to President Trump’s Attack on Transgender Service Members

President Donald Trump tweeted this morning that transgender service members will no longer be allowed to serve “in any capacity” in the U.S. military. Studies estimate there are as many as 15,000 transgender people already serving this country – and for those brave people fighting for our nation, Trump’s early morning tweets must be devastating. I believe every American should be outraged by the disrespect shown to those people wearing our country’s uniform. Furthermore, this half-baked idea puts all of our service members in harm’s way. Does President Trump intend to just pull 15,000 people out of every critical position to which they are currently assigned? That would disrupt core…

NC, GA, TN, and SD: What’s Next?

Hi friends, There’s a lot of news out there about bills in different state legislatures that are good or bad for the LGBT community. Lately, they’ve been mostly not-so-good bills. I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what kind of message these harmful bills send, especially to transgender youth growing up in these states. In North Carolina, the governor signed a law that, among other things, forces transgender people to use restrooms that don’t match the gender they live every day. Mississippi recently passed a broad anti-LGBT bill which also includes language that would allow any business or employer to force transgender people into the wrong restroom, putting their…

Driven to Make a Change: A Trans Woman’s Spiritual Journey

Chandi Moore is a rock-star in our community. She will knock your socks off with the sheer force of her personality and heart for those around her. When I have struggled with my transition, Chandi has been there to remind me of what it means to have inner strength — sometimes with laughter (please look up her horse escapades) and other times with real talk. No transition is easy, but when Chandi says she “gets it,” she’s had the experiences to back that up. She shared some of her life story on I Am Cait, but I want to give her the floor to share more about her journey and…

Love Transcends Gender: One Man’s Love for a Trans Woman

Ever since I transitioned, I’ve been asked, “Who are you going to date?” Here’s my answer: Me! Nine months into this and I’m still learning who I am. However, the road trip with my girls has put a lot of things into perspective (as I’m sure you saw last night on I Am Cait…). Something that has really struck me is the difficulty of dating as trans woman or trans man. Because I get so many questions about this topic, I thought I’d consult with someone who knows a lot more about this topic than I do. Without further ado, meet Jerid—the wonderful man who loves my beautiful and brilliant…
